Happy Monday Stacey my friend!
OMG so I have to tell you... Saturday, Jason took me to Monster Jam.
Picture this: an arena packed with everyone from toddlers to grandparents, the roar of engines echoing off the walls, and in the spotlight—GIANT trucks with massive, bouncy tires tricked out in wild, bright colors. Men and (AWESOME) women drivers alike were flying through the air, balancing on two wheels, flipping their trucks into the air and launching into jumps with hang-time that felt like forever.
Maybe you've seen it or actually had the thrill of going... but it was a FIRST for me and it was exhilarating.
And here’s the funny part—it all started because I forgot my headphones at the gym on Thursday. Stuck watching TV, I caught a Monster Jam ad. It made me look twice and I thought, I’ve never done that… and yeah, it’s probably for kids, but it looks so cool!
So I texted Jason: “Hey, I think we should go to Monster Jam this weekend.”
The reply? “What???” …then “OK”... then silence. I thought as usual, he thinks I'm a little crazy (and joking.. like I always do.)
Later that night, he walked in and handed me a piece of paper, beaming, “I got us front row tickets.”
He hadn’t been since he was a teenager, and he knew I’d love it. And I did.
It was loud. It was dirty. My earplugs were in. And for two straight hours, I was completely present. I wasn’t thinking about work, my to-do list, or the fact that I forgot to change the sheets that morning.
I laughed and cheered with such abandon my face hurt.
I even sent my kids a video and got the classic, “Who are you?” My daughter's boyfriend quipped... "I'm really worried your mom is going to get splattered with mud..." and my son appropriately chimed in with a .., “ I'm warning you mom... don’t start building ramps in the backyard…”
And it hit me—this is what we forget to do as adults. We forget to play. To let go. To do something just because it’s fun. To risk getting "splattered with mud."
And it’s not just emotional satisfaction—laughter releases endorphins, reduces stress, and even boosts your immune system. (Translation: joy is good for your body and your soul.)
So I ask you—what’s your Monster Jam?
What’s something you can do this week, big or small, that puts a ridiculous grin on your face and makes you feel like a kid again?
You have my full permission to go laugh like nobody’s watching.
Here’s to a week of (re)discovering joy, silliness and pure abandon. It is the root of living your most flavorful life!
